Dust Off the Boots
On returning to the path you already know is good for you — even after the rabbit hole.
The hardest part of getting better isn’t figuring out what’s good for you. Most of us already know. The hardest part is going back to it after we’ve drifted.
Dust off the ol’ boots
It’s time to begin anew
Walk down that forgotten path
The one you know is good for you
You probably know it
From down your rabbit hole
But life can lead astray
From what warms your soul
For me, it’s like a room of plants
With not enough water
But I do my best to keep them alive
Even if I have to suffer
I’ve learned over time to love myself
And do things for my betterment
The thing is, sometimes a hard truth
Is the only way to enlightenment
A room of plants with not enough water — that’s the image that won’t leave me. The plants don’t need much. They just need consistency. The drift away from them isn’t dramatic; it’s just life pulling attention somewhere else for long enough that the soil dries out.
The boots aren’t lost. They’re right where you left them. The work is the dusting off and the first step back. Everything after that is mostly muscle memory.
