I Like Your Weird: A Love Poem for the Specific
A love poem about the specific, personal kind of love — written for one person, but true for anyone who's ever genuinely been seen and cherished.
A love poem in praise of weirdness. Written for one person, but probably true about anybody who’s ever genuinely been loved.
I like weird people, places, and things
But I like your weird the most
It’s unlike anything I’ve encountered
There’s only one of you, and that’s what I love most
Someone may remind me of a mannerism
Or maybe they say something you once said
I love that their weird makes me think of your weird
It reminds me of our connection to everyone
I can’t help but wonder about my own weirdness
If anyone else shares my quirks, my idiosyncrasy
My habits, my fears, my dreams
I hope it impacts someone the way yours did to me
Being seen for the parts that are specifically yours — not the smoothed-out version, the actual weird ones — is a particular kind of relief. The poem is a small thank-you for that.
