I'll See You Later: A Haiku on Drifting Friendships

A haiku on the friendships that drift without a proper goodbye — the open door, the honest pause, and the quiet grace of 'I'll see you later.'

Some relationships don’t end. They just go on pause indefinitely, and you find a way to be okay with the pause.

I wish we were close

But we’re not — it’s okay

I’ll see you later.

I’ll see you later is what you say when you’re not ready for goodbye but you also know soon isn’t true. It’s the open door that nobody walks through. It does its job anyway.
