In Your Corner: A Love Poem for the People I Keep

A love poem written as a letter in verse — for the people I carry with me, even the ones I haven't talked to in a while.

Some poems are for everyone. This one is for a specific list of people in my life. They know who they are. If you’re reading it and someone you love comes to mind — they probably do too.

For those who I love
And care for the most
I want you to know
I want what’s best for you

Like what brings your heart joy
And what soothes your soul
I hope your dreams come true
Even if it takes some time

Know that I’m in your corner
Even if I’m not around
And if you’re sad
Know that I don’t want you to be

Know that you have someone
Who’s there for you
Even if we haven’t talked for awhile
I promise it’s going to be okay

The people we love don’t always know it on the days we’re not in touch. We assume they know. They assume they know. Sometimes they don’t.

This is a small attempt to close the gap. If you have someone you’ve been meaning to text — this is your sign.
