Cynically Optimistic: A Poem on Hope and Resilience
A reflective poem on holding hope and cynicism at once — forgiving without forgetting, and learning to trust the small voice inside.
Two seemingly contradictory traits, sharing one body. This is for the version of me that holds both at once.
Cynically optimistic
Forgive but never forget
Let go of all that hurt inside
Or live with much regret
Bow to the chaos of the universe
For you never had a choice
Pain and happiness are temporary
So listen to your voice
For you know deep down
What is pure and what is not
What is meant for your soul
And what must be forgot
Even if it hurts…
Know there’ll be brighter days
And when they come, cherish them
Appreciating always
The voice underneath is usually right. The trick is just being quiet enough to hear it.
