Awakening from Suffering
On the slow climb out — and the small mercy of the lessons that arrive along the way.
For anyone who’s spent time in their own version of the dark. The poem doesn’t pretend it was easy. Just promises it was useful.
Awakening from suffering
Is not an easy task
But lifting up your tired soul
Is something that will last
If you find the strength within
I know that you’ll be glad
For everything that happens
There are lessons to be had
I wish the lessons didn’t sting
Quite as hard as they do
But then we wouldn’t appreciate
All the blessings life can give to you
The trade isn’t fair — you don’t get to choose between the hurt and the wisdom. The wisdom only arrives via the hurt. But once it’s there, the wisdom is yours, and it doesn’t unteach itself. That’s the small payment.
