If You Had My Eyes: A Poem on Self-Worth
A reflective poem on self-worth and body image — for anyone who's lost the argument with the mirror, and needs a reminder that it lies.
For anyone who’s stared at themselves and lost the argument. The mirror is unreliable.
When you see yourself in the mirror
You see flaws and imperfections
Reflections of insecurities
Instilled inside, feeling inferior
But it’s all from within your mind
It’s only your eyes, not mine
It’s hard to find love within
When thoughts of ourselves are unkind
These thoughts often manifest
What others cannot feel or see
Believe me, if you had my eyes
You’d be surprised by your beauty
The unkind voice inside your head is not a journalist. It’s a critic with a vendetta. The people who love you can see what it can’t. Borrow their eyes for a minute when yours are lying to you.
